Get Involved: Join our Committees

Welcome!   LWVNSBC is an all-volunteer organization and we encourage people to join a committee to get acquainted and get involved.   Volunteer activities are available to suit your skills and time – just an hour or two a month or more.  Please check the League’s calendar for times and locations.

Fill out the PDF icon Committee Interest form and let us know which activities you are interested in.  We'll contact you and help you find an opportunity that works for you!

  • The Bylaws Committee maintains the League’s current bylaws, keeps current on National and state League bylaws, determines if bylaw changes are needed, considers the implications of proposed changes, and makes recommendations to the Board.
  • The Communications Committee spreads the word about the North SB County League news and events. Committee members create and publish our newsletter, 'The Voter', assist with social media posts on Facebook and Instagram, post our event videos to YouTube, update our website, and email communications.
  • The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee (DEI) leads our League in advancing the DEI commitment of LWVUS and LWVC into our local League mission and connects with members for outreach to our cities to embrace the diversity of these communities.
  • The Housing Committee meets to review/discuss the issues and resources in Santa Barbara County.
  • The goals of the Immigration Committee are to educate members and the public about immigration and deportation issues, to advocate for improvements, and to support associated county organizations, per the League's immigration policy and positions.
  • The Legislative Committee follows bills on which LWVC has taken a position (support/oppose) with strong focus and actions on certain bills related to our League’s priorities and the North Santa Barbara region. We educate/inform members and local citizens on these bills and encourage them to take action.
  • The Membership Committee manages and builds member engagement. You can help by inviting your friends to our Community Forums, help host orientation meetings for new members, and plan just-for-fun events so that new and existing members can meet and get to know each other better.  We reach out to new/renewing members with informational emails and calls.
  • Observer Corps:  Monitoring local government meetings is a long-established practice of the LWV.  An 'observer' is a trained individual who attends a local government meeting (such as SB County Board of Supervisors, City Councils, Planning Commissions, and School Boards), notes what happens at the meeting, and reports back to our League to alert us to what decisions are being made.  Training is provided.
  • The Program Planning Committee organizes membership meetings and  events.  These events are developed and implemented based on the platform adopted at our annual Program Planning meeting.  This is when we decide where and how we will focus our resources over the next two years.
  • The Voter Services Committee implements the core mission of the League: voter education and registration.  We plan voter registration drives and Candidate Forums, and we energize and motivate voters with Get Out the Vote activities. We distribute voter publications like the League's Easy Voter Guide and Pros&Cons before each major election.
  • The Water Committee monitors and recommends action on issues concerning water in our area. The committee is always interested in learning about major water initiatives going forward around the state.
